Travelling to Guelph

Guelph is served by three nearby airports, a relatively extensive inter-city bus system, occasional suburban rail links to Toronto, and by an extensive highway system; there is some more information on travel in the trips section.

Airports

Guelph is served by four airports: the miniscule Toronto Island airport (YTZ), the tiny Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF), the small John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM), and the larger Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ), the main Toronto airport.

Porter Airlines flies into the Toronto Island airport, from which you can easily take the train.

Waterloo Region's airport is pretty tiny, though WestJet does do a run from Calgary.

The Hamilton International Airport (YHM) is smaller than Peason. YHM used to be the destination for Zoom and Globespan, but both have since gone bankrupt. WestJet flies into Hamilton. There are three car rental services with service desks at the airport: Avis, Hertz, and National. There are a variety of shuttle services from Hamilton Airport, as well as several taxi services.

Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is further away, but has much better connections to major world destinations. You may get better prices by flying into Pearson. Pearson is approximately a 30 minute drive from Hamilton. There are five car rental companies with desks at Pearson: Avis, Budget, Dollar/Thrifty, Hertz, and National/Alamo. There are a few shuttle services too. You can also take a limousine or taxi which are at a fixed price (for a limousine and for a taxi).

In Canada, taxes are in addition to the posted price. The federal government imposes a 5% Goods and Services Tax, and each province has an additional tax with the exception of Alberta; in Ontario, the total tax burden is 13%.
